Rants With Cindy

A day in the life of what's in my brain

I have a friend, Cindy, and we try to chat on the phone 5-10 minutes a day. We focus in on one or two topics which typically end in a rant. This morning was no exception. Our conversation started with me asking whom they went to for a colonoscopy…..and ended with a rant about medical insurance companies. If everything is normal, no problems, but if they want you to come back in 2 years for a screening instead of waiting the 5 year +1day , they won’t cover that. Now I have not seen the bill, but I am guessing it is that they will cover the screening but not the room the procedure is to be done in or recovery room or the anesthesia. There is some loophole that they won’t cover everything because you may or may not be high risk. I don’t know about you, but your choices are to either pay it, not have the anesthesia (not likely) or wait the 5 years+1 day and pray for the best. This then lead to a conversation about her dentist. Not that a colonoscopy and a trip to the dentist are similar, but we talk fast and have a lot to say. Our topic changes can be fuzzy at best. Anyhoo, her daughter went in for a 6 month cleaning and a few small fillings fell out that needed to be replaced. First of all the fillings they put in only have a 1 year warranty so that will be 500.00.  With insurance its only 425.00. What? I thought they covered 80%. Oh, they do but only the silver filling that apparently causes cancer, we don’t use that here. We only use the white porcelain type filling. Well, then why don’t you give me my x-rays and I will have another dentist do the silver fillings that my insurance covers. That won’t do you any good because the next dentist won’t accept someone else’s x-rays. Which I am sure cost what? 425.00 or more, because the insurance company only covers x-rays every 2 years+a day. We just pay it, right?
